Sheryll worked for HM Revenue & Customs for 6 years carrying out VAT compliance visits on local businesses. Armed with the knowledge of HMRC practice and policies Sheryll embarked on a career in VAT and over the course of the last 20 years (apart from a 2 year break spent teaching in Egypt) she has worked in various sectors including top ten accountancy practices, within industry, and fee protection companies providing consultancy and advice to clients on all aspects of VAT.

Sheryll’s areas of expertise include:

  • land & property issues ranging from property acquisitions that are a transfer of a going concern, the option to tax, partial exemption and the capital goods scheme
  • the construction industry, including the different VAT rates on building services
  • the Flat Rate Scheme
  • international services; the place of supply of services and the reverse charge
  • import and export and the place of supply of goods
  • agency and principal rules in relation to turnover

With her vast amount of VAT experience gained from working in most sectors Sheryll is used to tailoring often complex VAT issues according to the situation, whether it’s on the spot telephone advice, corresponding with HM Revenue & Customs or representing clients in the Tax Tribunal. Sheryll is keen to bring her extensive technical experience to offer clients of Chartergates practical and efficient VAT advice tailored to the needs of business.
